Policy studies related to Participatory Forest Management

India started implementing large-scale participatory forest management programmes in the 1990s. The central and state governments passed several conducive policies and guidelines related to joint forest management (JFM), ecodevelopment, NTFP management and others. In spite of several achievements in these programmes, many challenges still remain.

There is a need for debate and policy inputs to address these challenges. In this background, RUPFOR is planning to commission studies on important issues and come up with suitable policy recommendations to improve the programmes' impact on participating communities as well as forest resources.
